Time Names Trump as 2024 Person of the Year
According to the magazine, US President-elect Trump “has remade American politics.” For the full article, visit RT.com.
“Since he began running for President in 2015, perhaps no single individual has played a larger role in changing the course of politics and history than Trump,” Time stated. “In many years, that choice is a difficult one. In 2024, it was not.”
Other notable individuals considered for the title included US Vice President Kamala Harris, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and tech moguls Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg, among others.
Established in 1927 under the name “Man of the Year,” Time's Person of the Year feature recognizes individuals or groups whose influence has markedly shaped the year’s events, whether for better or worse. Throughout its history, the list has included a variety of political figures, innovators, and cultural icons.
Trump has graced the cover of Time magazine three times this year. Although his first appearance on the cover was in 1989, he has frequently criticized the publication, once dismissing its 100 Most Influential People list as a “joke and stunt.”
After German Chancellor Angela Merkel was named Person of the Year in 2015, Trump tweeted, “I told you TIME Magazine would never pick me as person of the year despite being the big favorite. They picked a person who is ruining Germany.” Contrastingly, upon being named Person of the Year in 2016, he described it as “a tremendous honor” during an interview with NBC News.
