Shanghai Introduces Comprehensive Services for Exporting Used Cars
On Wednesday, China launched its inaugural in-port used car export inspection point in Shanghai, aimed at streamlining the export process and enhancing cost-effectiveness.
The new Shanghai Port Used Car Export Comprehensive Service Center will provide comprehensive one-stop services for vehicle registration and port logistics, specifically catering to used car export enterprises in Shanghai and nearby provinces.
"The establishment of the service center will significantly improve the capital turnover rate and time efficiency for used car export enterprises," stated Zhang Wen, general manager of Shanghai Leiyin Car Service Co., Ltd., in remarks to local media outlet Shanghai Observer.
Zhang elaborated that previously, used cars needed to be transported to a vehicle management office in Shanghai for necessary transfer procedures before heading to the port. The introduction of the new center will simplify this process, thereby cutting down on transportation costs and processing times.
In 2019, China initiated a pilot program for used car exports across 10 cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, and Qingdao, and this program has experienced rapid growth since its nationwide expansion in March. According to the Ministry of Commerce, China exported 275,000 used cars in 2023, yielding $6.88 billion in revenue.
As one of the pioneer cities for used car exports in China, Shanghai has witnessed a rising demand for such exports.
Recently, the Shanghai municipal government has rolled out various supportive measures aimed at optimizing the used car export process, further improving the city's international, law-based, and user-friendly business environment.
