Road, electricity, and telecom services mostly restored in flood-affected Hunan
In Zixing City, located in central China's Hunan Province, road, electricity, and telecom services have largely been reinstated following the disruption caused by the heavy rains brought on by Typhoon Gaemi.
Authorities reported in a press conference that electricity and communications have been reinstated in 183 administrative villages. Ongoing relief efforts aim to restore road access to 19 villages, power supply to 24 villages, and telecommunications in 31 villages, as per the official statement.
A total of 300 metric tonnes of relief supplies have arrived in Zixing, with 695 individuals evacuated and 515 receiving medical attention, according to officials on Friday.
In Xiangtan County, another area in Hunan severely affected by the flooding, cleanup and repair operations are in progress after three dike breaches occurred earlier this week along sections of the Juanshui River.
Water levels have considerably decreased, with floodwaters receding and returning to the river in Huazhong Village, Hekou township, which experienced severe flooding due to the dike breach. Villagers are beginning to return home now that disinfection work has been completed.
On Thursday, following the impact of Typhoon Gaemi, China's National Disaster Reduction Commission elevated the emergency response to Level II, the second-highest level in the four-tier warning system, for Hunan Province.
