Myanmar announces strict measures against online unlawful activities
Myanmar has announced that it will intensify measures to combat illegal activities conducted online.

The statement indicated that Myanmar emphasized its commitment to rigorously addressing illegal activities, including online gambling and telecom fraud.
The discussions took place on February 14, when Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Ma Jia and Chinese Assistant Minister of Public Security Liu Zhongyi met with Myanmar's Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe and the Union Minister for Home Affairs, Lt-Gen Tun Tun Naung.
During these talks, the Myanmar representatives outlined the specific initiatives their government plans to undertake to combat online gambling and telecom fraud. They expressed intentions to enhance collaboration with China and other neighboring nations to boost both bilateral and multilateral efforts. The aim is to establish a regular cooperation mechanism to effectively tackle cross-border crimes.
The Chinese officials commended Myanmar’s dedication to safeguarding the welfare of Chinese nationals, emphasizing that online gambling and telecom fraud pose significant threats to the safety of individuals’ lives and property.
Furthermore, China expressed its readiness to engage in both bilateral and multilateral cooperation with neighboring nations like Myanmar and Thailand. By implementing comprehensive strategies, both countries aim to address the underlying issues and prevent criminal activities within their borders, eliminate the "tumor" of online gambling and telecom fraud, and ensure the maintenance of normal exchanges and cooperation among regional countries, according to the statement.
