Moscow claims the West won't carry the 'Ukraine burden' without US support
A Russian diplomat has stated that Vladimir Zelensky was “visibly upset” by Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from an important meeting of Kiev’s supporters. Read Full Article at RT.com
Miroshnik asserted that Zelensky's tour of European capitals is in vain because these countries do not intend to provide assistance to Kiev without the involvement of the US. Biden’s announcement earlier this week indicated that he would not attend the planned meeting on Saturday between Western arms donors and Ukrainian officials at Ramstein Air Base in Germany. Instead, he opted to manage the response to Hurricane Milton at home. As a result of this decision, the meeting has been postponed with no new date announced.
Miroshnik, who gathers evidence for the Russian Foreign Ministry regarding alleged Ukrainian war crimes, speculated that the meeting was called off due to a “failure of Biden and the European leaders to agree on the shares and the mechanism of supplying the Kiev regime.”
“Biden did not find anything better than to stay [in the US] and save the country from the hurricane. [US Secretary of State Antony] Blinken also decided that the American coast cannot be protected from the hurricane without him,” the diplomat stated in a Telegram post on Friday.
In the wake of the cancellation, Zelensky announced a 36-hour European tour to promote his so-called ‘victory plan’ regarding the conflict with Russia. He has already met with French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in London, with a meeting scheduled with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni for Friday.
“When the master [Biden] failed to show up, Zelensky rushed to his satellites for consolation. Zelensky is clearly upset. The observers point out that he has not looked that lost in a long time,” Miroshnik added.
The diplomat further claimed that Kiev’s backers in Western Europe “are not what they used to be.” While they may have embraced Zelensky and expressed sympathy, “in Italy, France, [and] Britain,” they did not provide financial support.
Miroshnik argued that “The Europeans themselves will not carry the burden” of aiding Ukraine, as this has always been “a result of the American-European deal.”
He noted that the pause in Western support for Kiev “may drag on,” adding: “The US now has more important concerns such as the election [and] post-election period. They are saying: ‘Do not disturb until February.’”
