Minister Says CPEC Represents Pakistan-China Friendship, Common Vision
On Wednesday, Ahsan Iqbal, Pakistan's minister for planning, development, and special initiatives, remarked that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) exemplifies the lasting friendship and common vision that Pakistan and China have cultivated over many decades.
During a ceremony in Islamabad on Wednesday, which celebrated the upcoming Chinese New Year and honored 30 exceptional Chinese staff members working on CPEC projects in Pakistan, Iqbal described CPEC as a blueprint for sustainable development and mutual prosperity that benefits not only the two countries but the entire region.
Iqbal highlighted the significant contributions of the Chinese staff, commending their commitment, technical skills, and tireless efforts that have been vital in turning ambitious projects into realities.
"From energy generation and infrastructure development to logistics and technology, your efforts have been crucial in overcoming challenges and ensuring the successful completion of numerous landmark initiatives," he stated.
CPEC, which was launched in 2013 as a flagship initiative of the Belt and Road Initiative, links Gwadar Port in Pakistan with Kashgar in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The first phase emphasized energy, transportation, and industrial collaboration, while the second phase broadens its scope to include agriculture and livelihoods.
Speaking about the second phase, Iqbal pointed out that it will create vast opportunities, modernize agriculture, digitize industries, promote economic diversification, generate millions of jobs, and improve Pakistan's competitiveness on the global stage.
Jiang Zaidong, the Chinese ambassador to Pakistan, also spoke at the event, expressing optimism about Pakistan's economic prospects under the current government's leadership and the collective efforts of its people.
"The cooperation and partnership between China and Pakistan will continue to progress steadily, fostering lasting development," he mentioned.
The event also featured lively traditional dances performed by both Chinese and Pakistani artists, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of both nations. Attendees expressed great interest in the performances and conveyed appreciation to China for its crucial role in strengthening Pakistan-China relations.
A segment of the ceremony was dedicated to recognizing the top-performing Chinese companies involved in CPEC projects, where certificates of excellence and souvenirs were awarded to acknowledge their exceptional contributions.
