Trump selects Casey Means as surgeon general
President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that he has appointed wellness influencer Casey Means as the United States' next surgeon general, following his decision to withdraw the nomination of Janette Nesheiwat.

Casey Means is the sister of Calley Means, an adviser to Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. After training at Stanford Medical School, Means left traditional medical practice to focus on helping patients improve their diets and exercise habits. She founded the health app Levels, which provides exercise monitoring and diet coaching, after stepping away from her surgical residency. Additionally, she co-authored a book titled "Good Energy" with her brother, advocating for healthier lifestyles to prevent disease.

In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump commended Means for her "impeccable ‘MAHA’ credentials," a nod to Kennedy's "Make America Healthy Again" initiative. He mentioned that she would collaborate with Kennedy to address chronic diseases.

Earlier on Wednesday, PMG and other outlets reported that Trump was withdrawing Nesheiwat’s nomination just a day before she was scheduled to appear before the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee for her confirmation hearing. In his Truth Social post, Trump indicated that Nesheiwat would be given a different role at HHS.

Concerns were raised regarding Nesheiwat's academic credentials, leading Trump confidante Laura Loomer to call for her nomination to be retracted.

Before a confirmation hearing can be scheduled, Means must complete financial disclosure and ethics paperwork through the Office of Government Ethics.

“Her academic achievements, together with her life’s work, are absolutely outstanding,” Trump stated. “Dr. Casey Means has the potential to be one of the finest Surgeon Generals in United States History.”

Means' website indicates that she serves as an investor and/or adviser for Truemed, the company founded by her brother, which employs doctors to verify the medical necessity of fitness and nutrition programs and advanced health technologies, enabling customers to receive tax breaks.
