Huawei Set to Unveil PCs Running HarmonyOS on May 19
Chinese tech giant Huawei announced on Thursday the impending release of its inaugural line of personal computers powered by its HarmonyOS operating system, set to launch on May 19. This release signifies a pivotal step in expanding Huawei's...

This release signifies a pivotal step in expanding Huawei's HarmonyOS ecosystem, which already supports its smartphones and tablets.
By introducing computers that run on the nation's first locally developed operating system for public use, Huawei aims to disrupt the established dominance of Microsoft's Windows and Apple's macOS in the PC market.
The HarmonyOS-powered computers represent the culmination of five years of research and development. The company asserts that the system features robust security measures, including a dedicated security chip for encryption, secure access mechanisms, and encrypted data sharing.
These new computers will facilitate seamless interaction across Huawei devices, enabling users to navigate between the screens of their phones, tablets, and computers using a single keyboard and mouse.
HarmonyOS, also known as Hongmeng in Chinese, is an open-source operating system designed for a variety of devices and applications, including smart screens, tablets, wearables, and vehicles. It was first introduced in August 2019.
Huawei points out that its HarmonyOS-powered computers can connect with over 1,000 external devices and currently offer more than 150 dedicated PC applications, along with over 300 ecosystem-compatible apps.
Analysts contend that Huawei may encounter difficulties in attracting users in the initial phases, given that mainstream operating systems like Windows and macOS present a wider and more established application ecosystem.
