Middle East Port Welcomes China's Green Car Vessel "Min Jiang Kou"
A grand ceremony took place in Dubai on Wednesday to celebrate the arrival of Cosco Shipping's latest RoRo vessel, which was welcomed by DP World at Jebel Ali Port as it made its first voyage to the Middle East.
Having left Shanghai on July 13, the vessel made a successful arrival in Dubai on Tuesday, marking a notable milestone for its operations in the Gulf region.
Named the "Min Jiang Kou," this vessel boasts a substantial capacity of 7,500 car units, ranking it among the largest RoRo vessels worldwide. With a length of 199.9 meters and a width of 38 meters, it features 13 decks, including four adjustable ones, providing versatile cargo options. It is capable of handling a diverse range of roll-on/roll-off cargo, such as passenger vehicles, buses, trucks, construction machinery, and new energy vehicles.
The vessel is equipped with cutting-edge features, such as real-time monitoring and precise positioning of vehicles, offering a visualized experience of the entire logistics supply chain.
In addition, the ship's design incorporates advanced green technologies, leading to a significant reduction in carbon and pollutant emissions by over 25 percent compared to traditional fuel vessels.
"The maiden voyage of the 'Min Jiang Kou' represents a significant step in enhancing China's export capacity and establishing a global automotive logistics supply chain," Zhang Zhanhao, operational director of COSCO Shipping Car Carriers, told CGTN.
"This milestone provides crucial support for the international expansion of Chinese automobiles," he added.
During this journey, the "Min Jiang Kou" transported nearly 4,900 vehicles from over ten Chinese brands, which were offloaded at Jebel Ali Port, with some subsequently transported to Dammam Port.
China's automotive industry has been rapidly expanding into the Middle Eastern market. According to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, the UAE ranked as the ninth-largest market for Chinese vehicle exports in 2023.
