‘Let's see how the president weighs that’: Lutnick notes Trump's decision due today on tariffs for Canada, Mexico
During a CNN interview, Trump's Commerce Secretary stated that Canada and Mexico must take additional measures to curb the flow of fentanyl into the United States.

Trump has threatened to implement 25 percent tariffs on Canada and Mexico starting Tuesday morning, citing concerns that these countries are not adequately addressing the flow of undocumented migrants and fentanyl across their borders. This uncertainty keeps the North American economy and financial markets on edge as the deadline approaches.
Lutnick expressed that while Canada and Mexico have made significant efforts to curb undocumented migration into the United States, they must intensify their actions against the fentanyl influx that leads to numerous fatalities each year.
He mentioned that he plans to discuss the situation with the president on Monday afternoon.
"I'll be sitting across the table from the president pointing out that they have done a good job on the border, but they haven't done enough on fentanyl," Lutnick said. "And he's got to decide how he wants to play [it]. And that's the key to the president's advisers. We are around telling them all the details. But then he's going to decide this afternoon and tomorrow we're going to put out those tariffs."
Lutnick emphasized that the priority for Mexico and Canada should be to "get the [drug] cartels to stop sending in fentanyl."
"He knows they've done a good job on the border. They haven't done enough on fentanyl. Let's see how the president weighs that today. We're going to talk about it all day today. And then he'll let everybody know tomorrow what the plan is," Lutnick stated.
