French President Emmanuel Macron has “angered everyone” and may leave his position before the end of his term, Le Pen has suggested. She mentioned that she has been preparing for early elections “out of precaution.”
In an interview with Le Parisien published on Wednesday, Le Pen, the leader of the right-wing populist National Rally party and head of its parliamentary group, stated that Macron has lost his authority both domestically and internationally.
“He has angered everyone. He has no more influence in the European Union,” Le Pen stated.
Le Pen expressed her belief that Macron is likely to exit his role prematurely and confirmed her preparations to run for office as he navigates significant challenges. She has previously contested the presidency against Macron in 2017 and 2020, where she improved her results but ultimately lost to the incumbent.
“Emmanuel Macron is done or almost done,” she said. “I am preparing for an early presidential election, out of precaution, taking into account Emmanuel Macron’s fragility and what little institutional levers he has left.”
Le Pen's view stands in stark contrast to Macron's assertions that he intends to serve until 2027. He has dismissed calls for his resignation from opposition leaders.
France has experienced political instability following snap elections in June and July, where no party emerged with a clear majority in parliament. After two months of political maneuvering, Macron appointed Michel Barnier, a 73-year-old conservative and former Brexit negotiator, to lead the government.
Barnier’s time in office became the shortest in France’s modern history after he was defeated in a no-confidence vote in early December, further deepening the country's crisis. He became the first prime minister to lose such a vote since 1962.
