Karoline Leavitt Rejoins Trump’s White House in the Role of Press Secretary
She ran for Congress in New Hampshire in 2022 but was unsuccessful before joining his campaign.
Leavitt, 27, previously held the position of national press secretary for the Trump campaign and has experience as assistant press secretary in the Trump White House.
“Karoline Leavitt did a phenomenal job as the National Press Secretary on my Historic Campaign, and I am pleased to announce she will serve as White House Press Secretary,” Trump stated. “Karoline is smart, tough, and has proven to be a highly effective communicator. I have the utmost confidence she will excel at the podium and help deliver our message to the American People as we, Make America Great Again.”
This announcement came at the end of a week filled with Cabinet appointments, which included some controversial selections for positions such as Defense Secretary, Health and Human Services, and the Director of National Intelligence. Notably, Senate confirmation is not required for a press secretary.
Before her recent role, Leavitt had served as an assistant press secretary in the first Trump administration and later ran for Congress in New Hampshire in 2022, where she secured the Republican primary for the 1st District but ultimately lost in the general election. Additionally, she was a spokesperson for Trump ally Rep. Elise Stefanik, who has been nominated to be the United States ambassador to the United Nations.
Throughout the Trump campaign, Leavitt was a key communicator and frequently appeared on cable television while addressing press inquiries. Colleagues on the campaign described her as well-liked, and she has demonstrated a willingness to confront the press on various platforms, garnering public support from some of Trump's allies.
