Israel initiates strikes on Iranian military objectives
The IDF stated that its strikes are “in response to months of continuous attacks from the regime in Iran against the State of Israel.”
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced the airstrikes early Saturday local time as they occurred, stating that these actions were a reaction to an Iranian missile assault on October 1, during which approximately 200 ballistic missiles hit both military bases and civilian infrastructure in Israel.
According to the IDF, these strikes are “in response to months of continuous attacks from the regime in Iran against the State of Israel.”
While Israel informed the White House ahead of the strikes, a U.S. official, who requested anonymity, clarified that no American military assets participated in the operation.
These Israeli strikes followed a visit by Secretary of State Antony Blinken to the region, where he aimed to mitigate tensions and seek an end to the ongoing conflict with Hamas.
Throughout his trip, Blinken emphasized U.S. support for Israel’s right to self-defense, acknowledging that an Israeli operation against Iran was likely while cautioning against further escalation of violence in the area.
IDF Spokesperson Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari stated in a video message that there were no alerts for Israeli citizens to take cover.
“The IDF is fully prepared in attack and defense,” Hagari mentioned. “We are following the developments from Iran and its proxies in the region.”
