President-elect Donald Trump has been referred to as America’s “second George Washington” by the action film icon and filmmaker Sylvester Stallone.
Stallone expressed his admiration for Trump on Thursday while introducing him at the America First Policy Institute gala held at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida.
“We’re in the presence of a really mythical character,” Stallone remarked about Trump. “I love mythology. And this individual does not exist on this planet. Nobody in the world could have pulled off what he pulled off, so I’m in awe.”
The actor further likened Trump to George Washington, the revered leader of the American War of Independence and the first president of the United States.
“When George Washington defended his country, he had no idea that he was gonna change the world. Because without him, you could imagine what the world would look like. Guess what? We got the second George Washington,” Stallone stated.
Additionally, Stallone compared Trump to Rocky Balboa, the titular character from the ‘Rocky’ film series, which features an underdog boxer triumphing against formidable opponents. “This man was going to go through a metamorphosis and change lives, just like President Trump,” he added.
Although Stallone has praised Trump publicly, he noted that he did not vote in the 2016 election, when Trump was first elected. In a 2019 interview with Variety, Stallone mentioned that he had “really tried to stay out” of politics.
Trump won against his Democratic opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, on November 5, marking him as the first individual to be elected to a nonconsecutive presidential term in over 130 years. He narrowly escaped an assassination attempt in July when a gunman opened fire at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Celebrities endorsing Trump during the campaign included actor Mel Gibson, rapper Kanye West, former professional wrestler Hulk Hogan, and singer Kid Rock. At the Republican National Convention in July, Hogan made headlines by ripping off his shirt to reveal a red tank top featuring the Trump reelection campaign logo.
In contrast, many prominent artists have supported Harris, including pop stars Taylor Swift and Beyoncé, along with Stallone’s co-star, Arnold Schwarzenegger.
