Harris labels Trump a ‘fascist’
The Republican campaign has condemned the statement as the type of “disgusting rhetoric” that has contributed to attempts on his life.

U.S. Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris labeled her Republican opponent Donald Trump a “fascist” who “admires dictators,” drawing attention to renewed criticism of the former president from his ex-chief of staff John Kelly.

During a CNN town hall on Wednesday, when asked if she saw Trump as a fascist, Harris replied affirmatively.

“Yes, I do,” she stated, later adding that if Trump were to be elected, he would be “a president who admires dictators and is a fascist.”

The comments from Harris reflect extreme rhetoric that, according to Trump’s campaign, has led to two unsuccessful assassination attempts against him, as noted in a post on X.

“This is the type of disgusting rhetoric that led to two assassination attempts against President Trump,” the campaign asserted.

Harris’ statements come following a series of interviews with John Kelly, the longest-serving chief of staff during Trump's presidency, which were published by The New York Times on Tuesday. In those interviews, Kelly criticized Trump harshly, claiming he fits the textbook definition of a fascist and would govern like a dictator if given the chance.

“Well, looking at the definition of fascism, it’s a far-right authoritarian, ultranationalist political ideology and movement characterized by a dictatorial leader, centralized autocracy, militarism, forcible suppression of opposition, [and a] belief in a natural social hierarchy,” he said, implying that this description accurately captures Trump.

Kelly also reiterated past controversial claims that Trump had privately praised Adolf Hitler, asserting that Trump said “more than once” that the Nazi leader “did some good things.”

In response, the Trump campaign criticized both Harris and Kelly. Spokesman Steven Cheung stated that Kelly had “beclowned himself with these debunked stories he has fabricated” and additionally accused the vice president of disseminating “outright lies and falsehoods.”
