Harris campaign details its strategy for Mark Robinson in North Carolina
Advisers to Kamala Harris are capitalizing on the ongoing Mark Robinson scandal in North Carolina to engage Black and suburban voters as they attempt to connect Donald Trump to the troubled gubernatorial candidate.

In a memo provided exclusively to PMG, Harris' team outlined their strategy, which focuses on leveraging the negative spotlight on Robinson to target suburban voters in the Charlotte and Raleigh areas, as well as moderate Republicans and Black voters. Rather than delving into a CNN report regarding controversial comments Robinson made on a pornographic website — including his stated enjoyment of "watching tranny on girl porn" — the messaging will center on Robinson's association with Trump and his extreme policy views.

Scott Falmlen and L.T. McCrimmon, senior advisers to the Democratic Coordinated Campaign in North Carolina, noted that with Trump-endorsed Robinson currently dominating the political discussion in the state, and Trump beginning to subtly distance himself from Robinson, the Harris campaign will keep emphasizing the longstanding “mutual support” between the two Republicans.

The Harris research team has "reams and reams of footage of the two of them embracing each other on the campaign trail," the advisers wrote.

“Trump made Mark Robinson, and he will have to answer for him,” the advisers stated.

Democrats have struggled to secure North Carolina in presidential elections since Barack Obama’s win in 2008, with Trump achieving his narrowest victory margin there in 2020. Falmlen and McCrimmon see North Carolina as their "top pickup opportunity" this election. Polling during President Joe Biden's tenure at the top of the ticket had shown Trump leading solidly in the state — a trend that shifted once Harris became the nominee.

While Harris’ campaign is unlikely to focus on resurrecting Robinson's previous vulgar posts on the now-deleted Nude Africa website, which he denies writing, they plan to highlight policy positions they deem unpopular with swing voters. The memo mentions abortion restrictions, support for repealing the Affordable Care Act, and wanting to eliminate the federal Department of Education.

Although Trump has attempted to position himself as moderate on abortion, Harris’ team is spotlighting his recent declaration that he would vote against a Florida ballot measure to expand access to the procedure, juxtaposed with Robinson’s claim that women seek abortions "because you weren’t responsible enough to keep your skirt down."

On Friday, Harris’ team launched a new advertisement in the state that features comments from Robinson, alongside clips of Trump praising the lieutenant governor.

“Defeating the Trump-Robinson agenda will remain a core piece of the Harris-Walz path to victory in North Carolina,” wrote Falmlen and McCrimmon in the memo.

While Trump plans to hold a rally on Saturday afternoon in Wilmington, North Carolina, Robinson will not be attending, according to a source familiar with the rally. Republicans in the state are conceding that the governor’s race is a lost cause, even though Trump has yet to retract his endorsement of Robinson.
