According to the agency, the suspects operated in Sevastopol, Voronezh, and Rostov-on-Don, where they were preparing to target high-ranking Russian officers and the nation’s energy infrastructure.
These women had undergone prior training in Ukraine, learning how to use firearms, handle mines and explosives, operate drones, and detect external surveillance, as stated in the agency's announcement on Friday.
During searches of the suspects' residences, the FSB seized “a significant amount” of explosive materials, chemical precursors for producing explosives, electric detonators, and manuals for constructing improvised explosive devices.
The agency indicated that the women have been charged with terrorism and could face prison sentences of up to 30 years. The suspects have confessed to their crimes, and investigations are ongoing to identify their accomplices.
In footage released by the FSB, the women claimed that their handlers from the Security Service of Ukraine had compensated them with cryptocurrency for completing specific tasks and had promised to eventually facilitate their evacuation to Western Europe or Ukraine for a better life.
Three of the suspects revealed they were instructed to gather intelligence and prepare bomb attacks against personnel from the Russian Defense Ministry and government officials. The fourth woman admitted that her directive was to infiltrate a Russian volunteer unit engaged in the conflict in Ukraine with the intent of assassinating its commander using an explosive device.
