During an event last week in Glendale, Arizona, the Trump campaign played the song to welcome Robert F Kennedy Jr., who was there to support the former president. The band’s spokesperson told USA Today, “they had not been asked by the Trump campaign for permission to use the song and that had they been, they would not have granted it.”
Subsequently, the band voiced their disapproval on X, affirming that they did not permit the use of their track by Trump. Furthermore, according to The Independent, a representative from the band announced that "appropriate actions are being taken" against the Trump campaign, and any royalties collected would be directed to the Harris campaign.
Contrarily, representatives for Trump have maintained that they possess a license for the track’s use at public gatherings, with The Independent confirming documents that "appear to confirm that the campaign had indeed licensed the song from BMI’s Songview service."
This incident is part of a broader trend, illustrated earlier this month when Celine Dion also disputed Trump's campaign use of her song at a rally. According to a statement on the singer’s Instagram page, “In no way is this use authorized, and Celine Dion does not endorse this or any similar use… And really, THAT song?”
