Daisy Link, 29, is currently incarcerated at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami-Dade County, facing charges for the alleged murder of her husband in 2022. The alleged father of the baby, Joan Depaz, 23, is dealing with separate murder charges and was previously held at the same facility before being transferred to another jail.
In June, Link welcomed a baby girl, referring to the child as “a miracle baby.” Depaz remarked about their unique conception, stating it was “like the Virgin Mary” when discussing their situation with local media.
Link shared with WSVN television in Miami that their romantic relationship developed through communication via air conditioning vents from their cells. She explained, “Being in isolation for so long, you begin to spend hours and hours talking to this person, you know, to the point where it’s almost as if you’re in the same room with them.”
During an interview, Depaz recounted expressing to Link, “I always really wanted to have a baby. And I’m not gonna get to do that for a really long time. So if I had to choose somebody, you know, it would be you.” This led the couple to devise a plan to conceive a child.
According to reports, Depaz would send semen wrapped in plastic through the vents to Link’s cell. “I put the semen in Saran Wrap every day like five times a day for like a month straight,” he shared with the media.
Link elaborated on the process, saying, “He would kind of roll it up almost like a cigarette and he would attach it to the line that we had in the vent and I would pull it through." She added that she would use yeast infection applicators to "administer it."
Currently, the couple is being held at separate facilities. They continue to communicate via phone and engage in video calls with their child, who is reportedly in the care of Link’s family.
Miami-Dade Corrections is said to be conducting an internal investigation into the circumstances surrounding this case.
