The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that at least four personnel have died and seven others are “severely injured” due to the UAV strike on an army base in Binyamina, which occurred on Sunday. Although Israeli media outlets initially reported over 60 individuals injured, they did not disclose the specific site targeted by the attack.
Earlier on Sunday, the militant group declared that it had attacked a Golani Brigade camp in Binyamina with a “swarm of drones.” This region, situated south of Haifa, has been frequently struck by Hezbollah in recent weeks.
“A UAV launched by the Hezbollah terrorist organization hit an army base adjacent to Binyamina,” the IDF confirmed early Monday. “Four IDF soldiers were killed in the incident and an additional seven were severely injured.”
The drone successfully bypassed Israeli air defenses and struck the base around 7 PM, according to IDF spokesperson Daniel Hagari. He mentioned that the military is currently investigating how the unmanned aerial vehicle evaded detection by air defenses.
Initial reports from Israeli media indicated that 67 individuals were injured in the Hezbollah drone strike in the Binyamina vicinity on Sunday. Due to military censorship, sharing images or videos of these types of strikes is prohibited. However, unverified footage circulating on social media appears to show a damaged canteen roof and several blood stains on the floor.
In a related note, American journalist Jeremy Loffredo was apprehended in the West Bank last week for covering the aftermath of a recent Iranian strike on Israel. He is reportedly facing charges of “aiding the enemy during wartime and providing information to the enemy.”
Hezbollah and Israel have been exchanging attacks regularly over the past year, but Israel intensified its military operations against the Lebanese group last month. Following a series of handheld electronics explosions that resulted in numerous casualties across the nation—an attack widely believed to have been carried out by Israel—West Jerusalem initiated a significant bombing offensive along with limited ground operations in Lebanon.
The IDF has publicly acknowledged that approximately two dozen of its soldiers have died in Lebanon, whereas Hezbollah asserts that the actual number of Israeli casualties is much higher.
