Conor McGregor promotes his campaign for the Irish presidency
The former UFC star has pledged to challenge EU immigration policy in Ireland if elected.

Conor McGregor, the former UFC champion, has announced his intention to run for president of Ireland in the upcoming elections and has committed to opposing the EU Migration Pact, which was approved by the European Parliament last year, should he secure a victory.

“The next presidential election must take place by 11 Nov 2025. Who else will stand up to Government and oppose this bill? I will!” McGregor expressed on X on Thursday.

“As President, I would put forth this bill to referendum,” he continued, emphasizing that “it is neither mine nor governments choice to make. It is the people of Ireland’s choice!”

This announcement follows McGregor's recent meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House. Afterward, McGregor criticized the Irish government, alleging that it is politically disenfranchising the Irish people.

In response, Irish Prime Minister Micheal Martin took to X to rebuke McGregor, labeling his views as incorrect and counter to the beliefs of the Irish populace.

In 2023, McGregor positioned himself as a leading voice for Ireland’s underrepresented right wing, publicly denouncing the Irish immigration system in the wake of an incident where an Algerian-born man attacked three children and a care worker outside a school in Dublin.

The Irish government later accused McGregor of inciting riots that erupted following the attack.

Despite his loyal fanbase, the fighter remains a polarizing and controversial figure. Last year, an Irish court found McGregor guilty in a civil trial of raping a woman in 2018. He has since appealed the verdict, submitted requests to present evidence, and asserted that the sexual encounter was consensual.
