China's Courier Industry Booms in 2024 with 100 Billion Parcels Delivered
China's delivery sector marked a significant milestone this year by handling over 100 billion parcels as of Tuesday, achieving this figure 71 days sooner than in 2023, as reported by the State Post Bureau (SPB). This indicates a thriving consumer market.

On average, this volume translates to 71.43 parcels per person in China, or 5,144 parcels delivered per second, according to the SPB.

The express delivery industry now serves as a crucial measure of the nation's economic vitality. With the economy on a steady upward trajectory, the sector has reached unprecedented heights in key areas.

New records were set with more than 580 million packages delivered in a single day, and monthly delivery volumes averaging over 13 billion parcels. Additionally, monthly sector revenues have eclipsed 100 billion yuan (approximately $14 billion).

The efficiency of China's logistics network has been a major factor, extending to the most isolated locations with 234,000 delivery points nationwide and express delivery reaching over 95 percent of villages. Enhanced delivery times were noted this summer, with next-day deliveries of seasonal fruits from far-flung areas.

Advancements such as drone deliveries in certain cities cutting down transit times to about 10 minutes and autonomous vehicles speeding up processes have further elevated the efficiency of parcel delivery.

Looking ahead, the SPB has outlined plans to bolster urban logistics hubs, enhance rural delivery networks, broaden international services, and better integrate delivery systems with advanced manufacturing capabilities.

For the past decade, China has maintained its position as the global leader in express delivery volumes.
