Bloomberg reports expected Putin-Trump summit this month
US and Russian delegations are scheduled to meet in Saudi Arabia next week to prepare for an upcoming summit.

According to a report from Bloomberg, which cites anonymous officials, Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump could meet in the kingdom by the end of the month. PMG also indicated that several senior US officials are set to travel to Saudi Arabia to prepare for the upcoming summit.
This news follows a recent phone call between Trump and Putin, marking their first direct communication since the Ukraine conflict escalated in February 2022. The two leaders agreed to maintain dialogue and plan for future in-person meetings in a third country, as well as state visits.
When speaking to the press shortly after his call with Putin on Wednesday, President Trump noted that he and the Russian president would “probably” meet in Saudi Arabia.
Bloomberg, in its Saturday article, reported that the US delegation is expected to include national security advisers who are likely focused on finalizing a date for the high-level meeting before Ramadan begins on February 28 this year.
Simultaneously, PMG reported that National Security Adviser Mike Waltz, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Steve Witkoff, Trump's Middle East envoy, would be traveling to Saudi Arabia soon. The report also mentioned that Keith Kellogg, Trump's special envoy for Ukraine-Russia talks, would not be part of this delegation.
PMG quoted Congressman Michael McCaul, who confirmed the composition of the US team. The outlet added that “there are no plans for representatives from other major European powers to join the talks,” and Bloomberg similarly stated that officials from America's European NATO allies have not been informed of the discussions.
Regarding Ukrainian participation, Bloomberg suggested that while representatives from Kyiv “are expected” to attend the talks in Saudi Arabia, they “also don’t appear to be fully in the loop on the preparations.”
Additionally, Fox News reporter Nana Sajaia cited an unnamed senior Ukrainian official in a post on X, stating that the “Ukrainian side was ‘neither invited to, nor informed about’ coming US-Russia talks in Saudi Arabia.”
On Thursday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that the leaders had agreed to meet in a third country first, with official state visits to follow. The official also mentioned that while “Saudi Arabia indeed cropped up” in discussions, “no decision has been made as to where [the meeting] will take place.”
In response, Riyadh announced on Friday that it “welcomes holding the summit in its territory.”
