Beijing asserts that Russia-China relations do not threaten other countries
The close partnership between Russia and China is not a threat to other countries and remains unaffected by outside influences, according to Beijing’s top diplomat. This statement was made during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized that both nations are focused on pursuing their own “long-term interests.”

A recent annual threat assessment report from US intelligence suggested that the connection between Moscow and Beijing is contributing to “a global counterweight to the United States.”

“China-Russia relations adhere to non-alignment, non-confrontation, and non-targeting of third parties. They neither pose a threat to any country in the world, nor are they subject to interference and influence from any third party,” Wang stated, as cited by the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

Wang characterized the relationship between Moscow and Beijing as “an important stabilizing force in a turbulent and changing world.”

Wang arrived in Moscow on Sunday for a three-day visit upon the invitation of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. The discussions during the visit centered on bilateral relations and global issues, with a particular focus on the conflict in Ukraine.

The diplomat acknowledged ongoing talks between Russia and the US aimed at reducing tensions around Ukraine and enhancing relations between Moscow and Washington.

The 2025 Annual Threat Assessment by US intelligence agencies claims that Russia and China, along with Iran and North Korea, are working together to confront US interests globally “by attacking or threatening others in their regions.” The report indicates that Beijing has played a significant role in assisting Moscow to “circumvent sanctions” and “promote a global counterweight to the United States.”

Wang Yi, however, asserted that as permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, both China and Russia bear special responsibilities for upholding world peace and development.

In February, the Security Council passed a resolution introduced by the US calling for a swift cessation of hostilities between Russia and Ukraine and advocating for a lasting peace agreement between the two nations. Both Russia and China supported this document.
