Andrew Tate and His Brother Depart Romania for the US
Andrew and Tristan Tate, well-known social media influencers who are facing criminal charges in Bucharest, departed Romania for the US on Thursday. Previously, they had been barred from leaving the country amidst the ongoing legal issues against them.

The Tate brothers, both dual citizens of the US and UK, were arrested in Romania in 2022 on multiple charges, including human trafficking, sexual misconduct, money laundering, and forming an organized crime group. They have denied any wrongdoing but were subjected to house arrest after spending three months in police custody. Since their release, their movements have been restricted.

Media reports indicate that the brothers took a private jet from Bucharest early Thursday, en route to Florida after Romanian authorities returned their US passports. The Romanian special prosecutor’s service, which is overseeing the case, confirmed that it had revoked the travel restrictions that previously prevented their departure.

This development follows reports that the Trump administration had been advocating for Romania to lift the travel ban on the brothers, who are known supporters of the former president.

As reported by the Financial Times, US officials initiated discussions about the issue during a call with the Romanian government earlier this month. Richard Grenell, Trump’s envoy for special missions, subsequently approached Romanian Foreign Minister Emil Hurezeanu with the request at the Munich Security Conference. However, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu later denied that the Trump administration exerted any pressure regarding the case.

The first criminal case against the brothers faced delays last month when a Bucharest appeals court sent it back to prosecutors, citing issues in the indictment. Nevertheless, according to the DIICOT, the charges remain and prosecutors are working on a new case. They also noted that if the brothers fail to attend upcoming court hearings in Romania, their travel bans could be reinstated, or they could be arrested. The BBC reported that the Tates are expected to return to Romania by the end of March.

In addition to their legal troubles in Romania, both brothers face rape and human trafficking charges in the UK. A court in Bucharest ruled last year that they could be extradited to Britain after the legal proceedings in Romania are concluded.
