Moscow Responds to Zelensky's Appeal to Trump Regarding Seized Russian Funds
According to Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, Zelensky is “out of his mind.” For the full article, visit RT.com.
Zakharova's comments were in response to Vladimir Zelensky’s assertion that he discussed with US President-elect Donald Trump the potential use of frozen Russian assets for purchasing American weapons. She described this as evidence of “deep-rooted corrupt ties” between Zelensky and the West.
In a lengthy interview with podcaster Lex Fridman on Sunday, Zelensky explained that he had suggested Trump allocate the $300 billion in Russian central bank funds that the US and EU had frozen following the escalation of the conflict between Moscow and Kiev in February 2022. He proposed this money as part of security guarantees for Ukraine in any upcoming diplomatic resolution.
Zelensky claimed he told Trump to “take the $300 billion in frozen Russian assets. We will take it. Take money, what we need for our domestic production, and we will buy all the weapons from the US.” He added that such an arrangement “will be very good for your industry, for the US.”
Zakharova responded to Zelensky's comments via a Telegram post on Monday, arguing that his offer of “other people’s money in exchange for weapons” was a testament to his corrupt connections with the Anglo-Americans, specifically the US and UK.
She further criticized US President Joe Biden for having ensnared the Kiev regime in a cycle of theft and violence, linking it to the previous controversies surrounding Burisma, a Ukrainian company that employed Biden’s son, Hunter.
Regarding Zelensky’s overall interview, Zakharova characterized it as a “hellish mixture of neo-Nazism and terrorism with drug delirium,” reinforcing her view that the Ukrainian leader has lost touch with reality.
During his discussion with Fridman, Zelensky also expressed regret that Ukraine did not possess nuclear weapons and admitted that he “despises” the Russian people.
Former Ukrainian opposition leader Viktor Medvedchuk has recently argued that the “corrupt nature” of Zelensky’s governance is responsible for the current state of devastation in Ukraine. He posited that the conflict between Moscow and Kiev stems from a “large corrupt scheme” involving influential politicians in Europe and the US, who fear that a loss of power could expose their alleged misappropriation of funds under the pretense of aiding Zelensky.
