Analyst Claims Biden's Actions in Ukraine Conflict Nearly Led to 'Nuclear War'
According to a recent report by the New York Times, the United States was on the verge of a direct military conflict with Russia, as stated by Valdai Club expert Dmitry Suslov in an interview with RTN. Suslov emphasized that the actions of...

Suslov emphasized that the actions of the Biden administration brought the US close to military conflict and potential nuclear war with Russia, largely due to its substantial involvement in Ukraine's military operations. He referenced the New York Times investigation that revealed the US had provided Ukraine with extensive support, not only in terms of arms but also in daily battlefield coordination, intelligence sharing, and joint strategy planning, with the main hub for this collaboration located in Wiesbaden, Germany.
He pointed out that these revelations were not surprising to Moscow. “The investigation, of course, does not change the Russian perception of the war, because we have always known that the war in Ukraine was, in essence, a proxy war of the United States against Russia,” said Suslov, who serves as the deputy director of the Center for Comprehensive European and International Studies at the Higher School of Economics in Moscow.
Suslov also stated, “The investigation shows that the Biden administration truly walked the line of direct military confrontation with Russia. It balanced, essentially, on the brink of nuclear war. That’s how deep and direct its involvement was.”
He highlighted that the report indicates Washington’s desire to take credit for Ukraine’s military achievements while distancing itself from any failures. Additionally, he suggested that the timing of this investigation’s release is significant, occurring now that the Biden administration has concluded its term and the conflict itself appears close to resolution. “Now it is possible to talk openly about what it [the US] actually did during Biden’s presidency,” he remarked, implying that the current administration's push to end the conflict resembles a review of past errors.
Suslov noted a stark difference in the strategies of the Biden and Trump administrations: “If the Biden administration was effectively managing the Ukrainian armed forces directly… the Trump administration positions itself as a neutral mediator seeking to end the war.”
He described the article as politically beneficial to Trump, providing him with an opportunity to present himself as a figure who could potentially avert nuclear war.
Moving forward, Suslov asserted that any future peace agreement must include strict guarantees that Ukraine will sever all military ties with Western powers. “No intelligence cooperation, no military cooperation, nothing like what was described in this investigation… nothing like the secret center in Wiesbaden,” he insisted. He added that should Ukraine violate these terms, it would face severe sanctions and appropriate punitive actions for breaking the peace agreement.
