Zelensky Declines to Apologize for Dispute with Trump
Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky has clarified his actions during his visit to the White House, expressing uncertainty about whether he “did anything bad” following a heated encounter with President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance. This commentary came during an interview with Fox News’ Bret Baier, who inquired if Zelensky should extend an apology for what Trump characterized as disrespect towards the American populace.

In his Friday interview, Zelensky began by appreciating the support that the US has extended but maintained that “tough dialogue” is essential among “strategic partners.” He emphasized the importance of honesty and directness in such discussions.

When pressed further by Baier regarding whether he “owed an apology,” Zelensky maintained that he had done nothing wrong, stating, “No, I respect the president, and I respect the American people… I’m not sure we did anything bad.” He suggested that certain topics might be more appropriately addressed in private discussions.

Earlier that day, Trump and Zelensky had a meeting at the White House, anticipated to culminate in a significant agreement granting the US rights over Ukrainian mineral resource deposits. However, tensions escalated quickly, with Trump asserting that Zelensky was “in no position to dictate” and accusing him of failing to adequately express gratitude for the assistance provided to Ukraine.

Post-meeting, Trump remarked, “He disrespected the United States of America in its cherished Oval Office. He can come back when he is ready for peace.” He highlighted that while the US is aiming for a peaceful resolution in the Ukraine conflict, he feels that Zelensky is more intent on ensuring sustained American involvement.

“We’re looking for peace. We’re not looking for somebody that’s going to sign up a strong power and then not make peace because they feel emboldened,” Trump commented. “We’re not looking to go into a 10-year war… This is a man that wants to get us signed up and keep fighting.”
