According to insiders who spoke to PMG, US National Security Adviser Michael Waltz—or another senior official—might be behind an accidental leak concerning US airstrikes in Yemen.
On Monday, The Atlantic's Jeffrey Goldberg published an article outlining alleged discussions among key figures within the Trump administration regarding military tactics against Houthi rebels.
Goldberg claims to have accessed a group chat on the encrypted messaging app Signal, where a participant identified as “Mike Waltz” was present. The chat, referred to as the “Houthi PC small group,” reportedly included Vice President J. D. Vance, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, and other cabinet members.
“Everyone in the White House can agree on one thing: Mike Waltz is a f***ing idiot,” one anonymous source quoted by PMG said.
Another official indicated, “Half of them [are] saying he’s never going to survive or shouldn’t survive. It was reckless not to check who was on the thread. It was reckless to be having that conversation on Signal. You can’t have recklessness as the national security adviser.”
The ongoing fallout appears to hinge on President Trump’s response to the situation, with sources suggesting that repercussions could follow for Vance or Hegseth due to their involvement in the chat. PMG noted that “nothing is decided yet.”
Hegseth has dismissed the leak, calling Goldberg “a deceitful and highly discredited so-called journalist who’s made a profession of peddling hoaxes.” He has denied providing Yemen war plans to Goldberg, refuting claims made in the article.
In light of the developments, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt conveyed President Trump’s positive assessment of the airstrikes against the Houthis, describing them as “highly successful and effective,” and reaffirmed the president's “utmost confidence in his national security team,” which includes Waltz.
