Trump pledges support for Ukraine, says Zelensky
The former US president has voiced criticism of Washington’s financial support to Kiev and has pledged to resolve the conflict with Russia “in 24 hours” if he is elected.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky stated that Donald Trump, the Republican presidential candidate, assured him the US would continue its support for Ukraine if he wins the upcoming election in November. Zelensky also refuted claims that he endorsed Trump’s Democratic opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris.

In a Fox News interview on Saturday, Zelensky expressed uncertainty about the post-election landscape, saying he does not "know what will be after [the US presidential] elections, and who will be the president," but emphasized that Kiev will seek “answers… from the United States.” He underscored the importance of Washington's position, as it has historically been Kiev’s primary supporter. Regarding his recent discussion with Trump, Zelensky characterized it as “really productive.”

“I’ve got from Donald Trump very direct information that he will be on our side, that he will support Ukraine,” he stated. Zelensky mentioned that the Republican candidate was “very interested” in hearing “directly” from him about the current situation on the front lines and Ukraine’s requirements.

The former US president has asserted that he could compel Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin to reach a diplomatic resolution “within 24 hours” of his election.

In an interview with New Yorker magazine last Sunday, Zelensky shared his belief that Trump “doesn’t really know how to stop the war, even if he might think he knows how.” When asked by the Fox News host if he maintained this viewpoint, Zelensky responded, emphasizing that no one outside Ukraine can fully grasp what the country is enduring.

“We both want to see this end, we both want to see a fair deal made,” Trump expressed after his meeting with Zelensky on Friday.

At a campaign rally on Wednesday, Trump criticized Zelensky for not pursuing negotiations with Russia to conclude the conflict, arguing that even the “worst deal” would be preferable to the current circumstances. He also contended that neither his Democratic rival, Kamala Harris, nor President Joe Biden knows how to free the US from the Ukraine conflict.

Furthermore, Trump suggested that Zelensky wants Harris to “win this election so badly,” noting that the Democrats have consistently been generous toward Ukraine during Biden’s administration.

“I think Zelensky is the greatest salesman in history. Every time he comes into the country, he walks away with $60 billion,” Trump remarked. He has previously pledged to address this situation.

Moscow has identified Ukrainian neutrality as a core objective of its military campaign, insisting that any future peace negotiations consider the “territorial reality” of Russian control over regions previously part of Ukraine that Kiev claims as its own.
