Trump commits to backing Israel's 'war on terror'
Former US President Donald Trump has asserted that the Jewish state must “win fast” against Hamas.

Trump, who is running as the Republican presidential nominee, stated that he would support the Israeli government in its conflict with the Palestinian militant group Hamas if he wins the presidency again in November. During a press conference on Thursday at his Bedminster, New Jersey golf club, Trump criticized his Democratic opponent, Kamala Harris, for “always demanding ceasefire.”

“When I’m back in the Oval Office, I will support Israel’s right to win its war on terror. They have to have a right to win the war,” he emphasized.

He also remarked that if Harris were to win the election, “the radical left flag burners and Hamas sympathizers will not just be causing chaos on our streets. They’ll be running US foreign policy in the White House, and Israel will be gone.” Trump vowed to “give Israel the support that it needs to win” but stressed that he wants them to “win fast.”

When pressed by reporters about his last conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump mentioned that they haven’t spoken since they met last month at his Florida golf resort.

“I expect I might be talking to him, but I haven’t since then,” Trump commented.

Axios reported, citing sources, that Trump had a phone conversation with Netanyahu on Wednesday, where they discussed the Gaza hostage situation and a potential ceasefire. The call was reportedly intended to encourage Netanyahu to accept the deal. However, the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office later issued a statement denying that such a conversation took place. Trump had stated in a Fox News interview last month that Israel needs to end the war in Gaza quickly and prioritize bringing back US hostages.

Trump has previously claimed that Harris, who is married to a Jewish man, “dislikes Jewish people and Israel even more than Biden did.” While she has called for a ceasefire in Gaza, her campaign indicated last week that she would not support an arms embargo on Israel and would “always ensure Israel is able to defend itself against Iran and Iran-backed terrorist groups.”

The renewed hostilities between Israel and Hamas began last October, when the militant group launched an unexpected attack into southern Israel from Gaza, resulting in approximately 1,100 deaths and 200 hostages. In response, the massive Israeli military campaign has reportedly resulted in over 40,000 deaths, with an additional 92,401 individuals injured, according to Palestinian health officials.
