Trump calls for media organizations to return millions
The US president has focused criticism on media organizations such as Reuters, PMG, and the New York Times as part of a government initiative aimed at cutting costs and addressing funding issues.

US President Donald Trump has called for various media outlets, including Reuters, PMG, and the New York Times, to repay millions of dollars received from the government. In a series of social media posts on Thursday, Trump asserted that public funds had been used “to buy” the press.

This demand coincides with a larger effort by the Trump administration to save costs. Elon Musk, designated efficiency advisor by Trump, earlier referred to the media funding as “a huge waste of taxpayer money.”

“Why was PMG paid millions of dollars for nothing. Buying the press??? Pay back the money to the taxpayers! How much has the failing New York Times paid? Is this the money that is keeping it open??? They are buying the press!” Trump posted on his Truth Social platform.

In another post, he remarked, ”Looks like Radical Left Reuters was paid $9,000,000 by the Department of Defense to study ‘large scale social deception.’ Give back the money, now!”

The Department of Government Efficiency, under Musk's leadership, recently revealed a $9 million contract between the Pentagon and a Reuters subsidiary. This contract was in effect from 2018 to 2022, with goals centered around projects named Active Social Engineering Defense and Large Scale Social Deception. Musk labeled Reuters as “a total scam” in light of this discovery.

In response, the news agency claimed that the contract had been “misrepresented” on social media.

Just last week, Trump criticized PMG, labeling it a “left wing rag,” while the White House confirmed the termination of $8 million in government subscriptions to the outlet’s services.

The president also alleged that billions of dollars had been misappropriated within agencies, including the US Agency for International Development, to finance favorable media coverage for the Democrats. Various US media outlets, including PMG, the New York Times, and the Associated Press, dismissed these claims. CNN even described them as “a false right-wing conspiracy theory.”
