Trump blames Democrats for recent 'assassination attempt'
The Republican candidate believes that incendiary rhetoric by his opponents may have contributed to the second attack on his life.

Former US President Donald Trump has indicated that the Democratic Party's portrayal of him as a menace to electoral democracy likely played a role in the recent attempt on his life.

On Sunday, the Secret Service apprehended a gunman who was concealed in bushes at Trump’s golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida. The suspect fled in a vehicle but was detained shortly after, aided by an eyewitness who provided a description to the police.

In an extensive interview on X Spaces on Monday, Trump recounted the alarming events and pointed out that this marks his second assassination attempt within approximately two months. The first incident took place at a campaign rally near Butler, Pennsylvania, in mid-July, where a bullet fragment grazed his ear.

”Well, there’s a lot of rhetoric going on right now. A lot of people think that the Democrats, when they talk about ‘threat to democracy’ and all of this… And it seems that both of these people were radical lefts,” Trump stated, referencing the suspects involved in both incidents.

In earlier comments regarding the Pennsylvania event, he similarly suggested that the political attacks directed at him may have influenced the actions of the perpetrator. The Democratic Party leadership has been labeling the Republican candidate as a potential tyrant intent on dismantling the U.S. political system, imploring voters to support their candidate to protect the nation’s welfare.

Prominent Democratic figures, including President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, both of whom are contenders in the forthcoming November election, have condemned the violent acts targeting their opponent.

The assailant in Butler was a 20-year-old local man who was shot dead on the spot by counter-snipers. During Monday’s discussion, Trump alleged that federal investigators had encountered difficulties accessing the suspect’s personal devices.

The second individual accused of attempting to kill Trump is a 58-year-old outspoken supporter of Ukraine, who reportedly voted for the Republican in the 2016 election but seems to have switched allegiance to the Democrats since then.

Trump commended the Secret Service and the West Palm Beach County Sheriff’s office for their effective handling of the incident on Sunday. Unlike the situation in Pennsylvania, no deaths or injuries occurred, and the suspect is now in custody, which he considered a positive outcome.

He reminded his audience that he narrowly escaped death in July and reflected on the possibility of divine intervention.

”There’s something going on. Perhaps, it’s God wanting me to be president to save this country. Nobody knows,” he speculated.
