Severe Flooding 'in decade' Strikes Capital of EU Country
Unprecedented flooding has struck Budapest, posing a significant challenge as the city confronts potentially the most severe flood seen in over a decade.

Dubbed Storm Boris, this meteorological phenomenon has wreaked havoc across Central and Eastern Europe. It has delivered an extraordinary volume of rainfall, leading to vast flooding in Hungary and its neighboring regions, and causing the Danube River to overflow.

Social media platforms have been flooded with imagery from Budapest residents documenting the severe conditions.

"Storm Boris has inundated the Hungarian capital, Budapest, as it sweeps through Central and Eastern Europe," a tweet from Liz Heflin dated September 19, 2024, depicted a flooded urban area.

Susan Polgar, reflecting on her long-standing residence in the city, tweeted, "I was born and raised in Budapest more than 50 years ago, and I have to say that a flood this bad is rare. Luckily, it is not negatively impacting #BudapestOlympiad because the playing venue is far away from the Danube.
