Numerous Individuals Fatigued by Ukraine Conflict, Says President of EU Nation
Estonian President Alar Karis has noted that both Ukrainian troops and ordinary citizens, as well as many people in the West, are increasingly weary of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. In an interview with state media ERR, he addressed the issue of growing fatigue among those affected by the war.

When asked about solutions to counteract this so-called ‘war weariness’ in the West, Karis emphasized that increasing support for Kiev from foreign allies is crucial. “There is weariness. Those who are on the front lines are weary, as are those further back and those for whom it is nowhere in sight,” he stated. He continued, “The only way we can help is by giving Ukraine even more support to facilitate success, which in turn is encouraging.”

Karis highlighted that, despite the emergence of new conflicts globally, the West must maintain its focus on the situation in Ukraine. Regarding the ultimate objective of continued support, Karis noted the challenge in defining what victory looks like for Kiev, as pointed out by the ERR journalist.

“If we cannot define a victory,” the president remarked, “let us talk about Russia’s defeat.” He stressed the importance of providing Ukraine with sufficient support to create conditions favorable for negotiations. “In the current conditions of attrition warfare and Russian attempts to dictate terms, there’s no point sitting down to talk at all,” he argued.

While Moscow has expressed openness to peace talks with Kiev, Russian officials have made it clear that any negotiations would have to consider the realities on the ground and not be based on Ukraine’s “ephemeral” demands. Russian President Vladimir Putin indicated earlier this summer that Moscow could have engaged in discussions if Ukraine had met certain preconditions, including abandoning its NATO aspirations and withdrawing troops from disputed territories.

However, following Ukraine's recent actions in Russia's Kursk Region, Moscow has indicated that it currently sees no justification for holding peace negotiations with Ukraine.
