Nicaraguan leader calls Zelensky a ‘son of Hitler’
Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega has criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, likening both to Adolf Hitler, the infamous leader of Nazi Germany.

Ortega's comments were delivered on Monday during an event commemorating the 45th anniversary of the Nicaraguan police. In his address, he condemned Netanyahu's policies, stating, "At the head of the Israeli government there is a prime minister who is the son of the devil. Why? Because he practices a policy of terror and is Hitler."

The president directed his ire at Israel's Western allies as well, claiming that the actions of the European Union and the United States are likely to either "lead the planet to a total war" or result in their complete defeat.

Ortega did not spare Zelensky from his criticism, also comparing him to Hitler: “[Zelensky] is another Nazi, another son of Hitler, wanting to compromise NATO into going to war against Russia.” The Nicaraguan leader has consistently condemned Zelensky, repeatedly labeling him a Nazi figure.

These remarks follow Nicaragua’s recent decision to formally sever diplomatic relations with Israel, a move justified by the government as a response to the "brutal genocide that the fascist and war criminal government of Israel continues to commit against the Palestinian people."

A resolution from the National Assembly on Friday characterized the Israeli government as “an enemy of humanity, which intends to spread its barbarism throughout the Middle East, endangering world peace and security.”

Nicaragua's relationship with Israel has historically been complex, experiencing periods of severed diplomatic ties. Relations were restored in 2017 after Ortega had originally cut them in 2010.
