Netanyahu Criticizes UK for Halting Arms Sales
The UK government recently announced the suspension of certain arms export licenses to Israel, highlighting concerns over potential human rights violations in Gaza.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu harshly criticized this move, particularly after the discovery of six hostages, believed killed by Hamas, in a Gaza tunnel. "Israel is pursuing a just war with just means and is comporting fully with international law," Netanyahu stated on X.

The British decision affects 30 of the 350 weapons export licenses currently held by Israel. This action was justified by the potential risk of misuse of the exported arms in violation of international law.

Netanyahu noted on X that Hamas still holds over 100 hostages, including five British nationals. In a similar vein, former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson expressed his disapproval online, accusing the UK's leadership of deserting Israel and favoring Hamas.

In response, Defense Secretary John Healey emphasized that the UK continues to stand with Israel, stating that the suspension targets only those exports likely to be employed in the ongoing conflict and that the suspension won't compromise Israel's security. Official sources clarified that the halted exports primarily include parts for aircraft and drones, as well as other equipment suited for ground operations.

The UK's government cited the substantial civilian casualties and the extensive damage to infrastructure resulting from the ongoing military efforts in Gaza as key reasons for their decision. Both Israel and Hamas have faced allegations from the UN and various human rights groups of engaging in actions that might constitute war crimes and breaches of international law during their conflict.

The confrontations between Israel and Hamas escalated on October 7, following an attack by the Palestinian group which led to significant casualties and hostage-taking, prompting a severe military response from Israel that resulted in numerous deaths in Gaza, predominantly among civilians.
