Musk Participated in Trump-Zelensky Conversation, According to Axios
The South African-born tycoon reportedly gave assurances to the Ukrainian leader

Elon Musk joined US President-elect Donald Trump’s phone call with Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky the day after Trump won the US election, Axios reported on Friday.

Sources familiar with the conversation indicated that Trump assured Zelensky of US support, although he did not make specific commitments regarding aid. Meanwhile, Musk stated his intention to continue supporting Ukraine with Starlink satellites, which have been essential for the country’s communication and defense efforts.

Both Musk and Trump have been critical of financial and military support for Ukraine, asserting that Kiev cannot win the ongoing conflict.

The publication characterized Musk's involvement as unexpected, adding intrigue to the interaction between the president-elect and the beleaguered leader in Kiev.

Musk’s participation highlights his influence over Trump and his nuanced position on the war, according to Axios.

Earlier this year, Musk purportedly told Republican US senators during a conversation on X Spaces that Ukraine could not realistically defeat Russia.

“There is no way in hell [Russian President Vladimir] Putin is going to lose,” he reportedly shared with Senators Ron Johnson and Mike Lee, among others. “This spending does not help Ukraine; prolonging the war does not help Ukraine. Having these boys die for nothing is wrong and needs to stop."

Musk has also encouraged citizens to reach out to their representatives and oppose ongoing aid, statements that have drawn criticism for their perceived cynicism toward Ukraine’s plight.

The Biden administration is working to expedite military assistance to Ukraine before the January 20 transfer of power, amid fears that Trump might reduce support.

However, Trump’s conversation with Zelensky seemingly conveyed a different sentiment, as the Ukrainian leader later termed the exchange “positive,” expressing that Trump’s swift outreach following his victory was reassuring.

Despite this, Zelensky remains cautious. At a press event in Budapest on Thursday, he emphasized his appreciation for the prompt call but stated he “cannot yet know” what Trump’s actions will ultimately be. He added, “If it’s just fast, it means losses for Ukraine. I just don’t yet understand how this could be in any other way.”

During his campaign, Trump often promised to swiftly resolve the conflict but did not elaborate on the methods he would employ.
