Law enforcement employed tear gas and made arrests following unrest that erupted after celebrations for a Champions League semi-final win.

Widespread chaos unfolded Wednesday evening in Paris as fans of Paris Saint-Germain came together to celebrate the football club's victory in the Champions League semi-final. The celebratory atmosphere quickly turned violent, prompting riot police to step in and use tear gas to manage the crowds.

Clashes with police were reported throughout the city, especially around the Parc des Princes stadium and in central areas. Social media footage depicted fans lighting flares and fireworks, vandalizing property, and confronting law enforcement. Tear gas was deployed to disperse large, unruly gatherings.

One of the more severe incidents took place near the Champs-Élysées, where a vehicle drove into a group of PSG fans, injuring three individuals. Authorities confirmed that one of the victims remains in critical condition. The vehicle was subsequently set ablaze, and an investigation is currently underway.

Local news sources described scenes of utter chaos, including clashes between police lines and groups of fans, as efforts to disperse crowds extended late into the night. Approximately 2,000 officers in riot gear were stationed throughout crucial parts of the city, with emergency services responding to various incidents.

At least 44 arrests were reportedly made amid the unrest, with charges including public disorder, vandalism, and resisting police orders, according to a report by the BFMTV news outlet citing police sources.

The disturbances followed PSG’s 2–1 home victory over Arsenal, which secured the French club a spot in the UEFA Champions League final. The final is set for May 31 in Munich, where PSG will face off against Inter Milan.
