Medvedev secured the title with a decisive 6-2, 6-2 victory over Rublev, who was the defending champion at this tournament.
The 27-year-old Medvedev's path to the title included a significant semifinal win against world number one Novak Djokovic, breaking the Serb's 20-match winning streak.
With this victory, Medvedev achieved his 18th title at the ATP tour level and extended his winning streak to 14 matches. He has now triumphed in the last three tournaments he participated in, aiming to rise back up the ATP rankings, where he previously held the number one spot for 16 weeks in 2022.
“It is amazing because at the start of the year, it was not perfect. In tennis when you don’t win matches you have doubts. Now it just feels better,” Medvedev shared after defeating Rublev. “I was really happy with these three weeks and I am looking forward to the next ones.”
Rublev, the second seed, advanced to the final after overcoming Germany’s Alexander Zverev in the previous round, winning in a tense tie-break. However, in the final, he faced an inspired Medvedev, falling short of what would have been his 13th ATP title.
The Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships marked the first ATP event since 2008 to witness an all-Russian final, resembling the Kremlin Cup, during which Igor Kuritsyn defeated Marat Safin.
