Media reports: Melania Trump will not attend White House meeting
Melania Trump, the former and soon-to-be first lady, has reportedly declined an invitation to the White House, apparently due to the FBI's search of her belongings at Mar-a-Lago.

Following a decisive victory over Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris in last week’s election, Republican Donald Trump received a formal invitation from President Joe Biden for a meeting set for Wednesday morning.

“She ain’t going,” a source close to Melania told the New York Post on Monday. “Jill Biden’s husband authorized the FBI snooping through her underwear drawer. The Bidens are disgusting,” the source stated. “Jill Biden isn’t someone Melania needs to meet.”

The FBI conducted a raid on the Trumps’ Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida in August 2022, officially searching for classified documents. This unprecedented action triggered significant backlash, and the US Supreme Court later ruled that presidents have full immunity regarding their official actions.

CNN has also reported on Melania’s potential absence from the meeting, attributing it to a “scheduling conflict” associated with her recently released memoir, citing three anonymous sources familiar with her plans.

The invitation was seen as a symbolic gesture indicating that the Bidens are acknowledging the Democrats’ defeat and are prepared to transition power smoothly come January 20. CNN noted that this move reflects an effort by the Democrats to establish a moral high ground, particularly after Trump had previously snubbed the Bidens following the contentious 2020 election.

In the recent election, Biden and Harris secured a record 81 million votes to defeat Trump by the same electoral college margin he used to win against Hillary Clinton four years earlier. Republicans have claimed that the election had significant irregularities, a stance the Democrats have labeled as “election denial” and “insurrection.”

This time, Trump achieved 312 electoral college votes, won the popular vote, and claimed all seven swing states, while Republicans regained control of the Senate and seem to have retained a majority in the House of Representatives.

The meeting between the sitting president and his elected successor, along with their spouses, is a long-standing tradition in Washington. For instance, in 2016, Michelle Obama had Melania Trump over for tea to familiarize her with the White House.

The arrangements for Wednesday’s gathering are being managed by Biden’s chief of staff, Jeff Zients, and Trump’s campaign manager, Susie Wiles.
