Macron Set to Welcome Trump and Zelensky in Paris, According to Reports
French President Emmanuel Macron is set to meet with US President-elect Donald Trump on Saturday, just days after the parliamentary ousting of his minority government. This meeting will take place prior to the reopening ceremony of the newly restored Notre-Dame Cathedral, as reported by national media.

According to France24, citing the Elysee Palace, Trump’s meeting with Macron will be followed by discussions with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. It remains uncertain whether the three leaders will engage in a trilateral meeting or if Trump and Zelensky will have separate talks. However, the Ukrainian leader is reportedly eager to meet the US president-elect, as noted by AFP referencing a government source in Kiev.

The source indicated, “other meetings are also possible, in particular with President-elect Donald Trump, who will also attend the event,” in addition to the talks between Zelensky and Macron.

A significant gathering of national leaders and influential figures from 50 countries is anticipated in Paris for the reopening of Notre-Dame Cathedral, which suffered severe damage in a fire in April 2019. The UNESCO heritage site has undergone a €700 million restoration.

The event will see representation from the UK, with Prince William attending, as announced by Kensington Palace.

Despite the political turmoil surrounding him—following the recent no-confidence vote that resulted in the ouster of Prime Minister Michel Barnier due to objections to the minority government’s proposed austerity measures—Macron has asserted that he will not resign. He has committed to remaining in office until his term ends in 2027.
