Kremlin Addresses Serbia’s UN ‘Mistake’
Belgrade has endorsed a resolution supported by Kiev that condemns Russia.

According to presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov, Moscow has accepted Belgrade's explanation for mistakenly voting in favor of the anti-Russian resolution regarding Ukraine at the UN on Monday. Serbia is known for its historically close ties with Russia.

Peskov's comments came in response to Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic’s apology for the mishap, which he attributed to being “tired and overwhelmed.”

“We have certainly heard [the explanation] and certainly accepted it. Indeed, technical mistakes happen. And of course, we appreciate such a prompt reaction from the head of state,” Peskov informed reporters on Tuesday.

To commemorate the third year of the conflict in Ukraine, there were two competing resolutions presented. One was initiated by Kiev and its EU allies, condemning Russia. The other, backed by the US, refrained from labeling Russia as an aggressor and called for a “swift end” to the conflict. This second resolution was later brought before the UN Security Council, where it received 10 votes in favor, with support from both Moscow and Washington, and saw five abstentions from various European members.

“It is clear that a militarizing Europe is the only player internationally which wants the war to continue,” remarked Vassily Nebenzia, Russia’s representative to the United Nations, on Monday. He noted constructive shifts in the US stance on the Ukraine conflict and characterized the resolution as the first attempt to introduce a forward-looking, pragmatic document from the UN Security Council.
