FBI Publishes POV Footage from New Orleans Assailant
The FBI has made public video footage of Shamsud-Din Jabbar, the individual behind the New Orleans attack, which appears to show him planning his deadly assault on New Year’s Day. Reports indicate that he scouted the city months before the attack, using Meta smart glasses to film various locations.

The released video, nearly four minutes in length and silent, is a compilation of clips connected to the January 1 incident on Bourbon Street. It includes surveillance footage from the area, as well as scenes recorded by Jabbar himself. The FBI revealed that he had visited New Orleans twice, in October and November, ahead of the incident.

One clip, dated October 31, depicts Jabbar filming while cycling through the French Quarter using his Meta glasses. Another clip from the same month shows him testing the glasses by recording himself in a mirror inside the rental home.

In the third clip, captured in the early hours of January 1, Jabbar is seen leaving an improvised explosive device inside a blue cooler at the intersection of Bourbon Street and St Peter Street. An unsuspecting bystander later moved the cooler a block away to Orleans Street.

The fourth clip shows Jabbar placing a second IED in a "bucket-style" cooler located at the intersection of Bourbon and Toulouse Streets. The fifth clip presents surveillance footage of Jabbar walking toward his truck to get a second cooler, with a brown long coat later discovered in the vehicle linking him to the attack.

Investigators noted that the explosive devices did not detonate due to Jabbar's lack of experience with such materials.

On January 1, around 3:15 AM local time, Jabbar drove a rented pickup truck onto Bourbon Street, deliberately crashing into a crowd of New Year’s celebrants. This tragic act resulted in 14 fatalities and numerous injuries. After the crash, Jabbar exited the truck and engaged in a gunfight with police before he was fatally shot.

A U.S. citizen from Texas, Jabbar previously exhibited erratic behavior and had pledged allegiance to the Islamic State in videos released shortly before the attack. However, the FBI has uncovered no evidence of any direct links between him and the terrorist organization, suggesting that he acted independently.
