Several US government agencies contributed funding for laboratory research that allegedly led to the development of the coronavirus, according to Robert Redfield.
Robert Redfield, a former director of the US Centers for Disease Control, contended that Covid-19 was artificially engineered, claiming that the US had a “substantial” role in the pandemic's onset.
In an interview released on November 14, which only gained media attention this week, Redfield expressed his views while speaking with author and podcaster Dana Parish. He proposed that the virus was “intentionally engineered as a part of a biodefense program.” He indicated that while China bears responsibility, specifically in terms of failing to promptly inform global health authorities, including the CDC, about the virus's emergence, the US “role was substantial.” He emphasized, “They funded the research, both from NIH [National Institutes of Health], the State Department’s USAID, and the Defense Department.”
Redfield identified Dr. Ralph Baric, a prominent figure in coronavirus research, as the "scientific mastermind behind the research." He suggested that the professor from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill was “very involved in this research,” stating, “I think he probably helped create some of the original viral line.” While he admitted lacking concrete proof, he remarked, “I think there is a real possibility that the virus’s birthplace was Chapel Hill.”
Previously, Redfield posited that the Covid-19 pandemic, which has resulted in over seven million deaths worldwide and significant economic disruption, likely originated from a lab leak in Wuhan, China. He has remarked that discussions regarding the virus's origins were “squashed” and criticized the World Health Organization for not holding China accountable.
A widely discussed theory about the Covid pandemic's origins suggests that the virus may have crossed over to humans from an animal source, potentially a bat, at a food market. Conversely, China claims that the virus is of natural origin and has dismissed the laboratory leak theory as a political smear.
