Denmark Refutes Claims that Its F-16 Instructor Was Killed in Ukraine
Copenhagen has dismissed the reports in Russian media as “misinformation.”

Denmark has refuted a claim from Russian media that a Danish F-16 instructor was killed by a Russian missile strike in Ukraine.

Over the weekend, Russia’s state-operated TASS news agency cited “law enforcement sources” who asserted that a Danish national named Jepp Hansen had died in a strike on a training facility in the city of Krivoy Rog, located in the Dnepropetrovsk Region of central Ukraine.

In a statement released on Monday, Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen labeled the report as “misinformation.”

“No Danish soldiers have been killed in Ukraine,” Poulsen stated. “It is a false story that has been circulating in Russian media – probably to discredit Denmark,” he added.

The Russian media further claimed that Hansen’s death was “confirmed” by a friend on social media. However, other posts on X indicated that the account purportedly belonging to his friend did not exist.

Denmark has announced plans to donate 19 US-made F-16 fighters to Ukraine. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen confirmed the delivery of the first batch of six jets in November. According to NATO and the Danish government, instructors from Denmark have been training Ukrainian pilots at an airbase in Denmark.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has cautioned that all NATO troops and weapons in Ukraine will be considered legitimate targets for Russian forces. He emphasized that no level of Western aid would deter Russian soldiers in Ukraine.
