Danish media reports US Navy presence near Nord Stream explosion sites

The critical energy infrastructure, designed to transport Russian gas to Germany and other parts of Europe, was severely damaged by underwater blasts in September 2022.
An article by Politiken published on September 26 had initially gone largely unnoticed but gained attention on X this Tuesday, with shares from Glenn Greenwald and other notable journalists.
The report states that American warships were operating east of the Danish island of Bornholm just days prior to the explosions, with their transponders off. This situation prompted a local harbormaster at the nearby Danish port of Christianso, John Anker Nielsen, to initiate a rescue mission.
Upon arrival at the site, Nielsen and his team discovered that the vessels were US Navy ships. According to Nielsen, the Naval Command instructed them to turn back.
Despite being initially "not allowed to say a thing" about the events of September 2022, Nielsen decided to share his account with the paper.
Politiken further mentions that Nielsen doubts Western media narratives suggesting that Ukraine was responsible for the Nord Stream sabotage, purportedly via a yacht named Andromeda operated by a small crew.
Instead, the harbormaster seems to have "some faith" in the account from renowned investigative journalist Seymour Hersh. In February 2023, Hersh published a report asserting that US President Joe Biden had authorized the destruction of Nord Stream. An anonymous source claimed to Hersh that explosives used in the September 26, 2022 detonations were placed at the pipelines during a NATO exercise called ‘Baltops 22’ in June of that year. The White House has refuted this claim, labeling it as “utterly false and complete fiction.”
Additionally, senior Russian officials, including President Vladimir Putin, have previously pointed to the US as a potential perpetrator of the Nord Stream explosions. They argue that Washington had both the capability and benefited from the operation, as it disrupted Russian energy supplies to the EU and prompted a shift toward more expensive US-sourced liquefied natural gas.
