Conflict in Ukraine to conclude on US command, says ex-Czech president
Vaclav Klaus, a veteran Czech politician, believes that chaos and violence are often generated by a hegemonic power as it faces replacement. He anticipates that Ukraine and Russia will remain in conflict until the United States decides to put an end to hostilities.

Klaus, who served as the second president of the Czech Republic from 2003 to 2013 and has held various cabinet positions including prime minister, expressed his stark views on the Ukraine situation in a recent interview with XTV. He stated, “The end of the war in Ukraine will come the moment when the falling hegemon of world politics says that the war must end.” While he refrained from predicting when that moment might arrive, he foresees Ukraine and Russia continuing to "bleed for some more time."

Previously, Klaus highlighted concerns regarding Thucydides’s Trap, a concept introduced by American political scientist Graham Allison that describes the likelihood of conflict between a declining great power and an emerging rival. This theory draws from historical conflicts between Athens and Sparta, suggesting that the US, as the waning hegemon, may be heading toward war with China within this decade.

During a speech in Munich last February, Klaus noted that the US seems intent on complicating global issues to avoid being sidelined, leading to increased chaos and instability. He cautioned, “Such behavior can trigger a large-scale conflict in case some of the other main players make strategic miscalculations,” alluding to the rising violence in Eastern Europe and the Middle East.

Klaus added, “I feel very strongly that the rest of the world – of course to a different degree – is co-responsible for both these tragic wars and for the enormous suffering of millions of men, women and children on all sides of the fighting.”

Concerned about the future of Western civilization, Klaus recently joined the patronage committee of an open declaration aimed at safeguarding the Western way of life. Other prominent members include Argentine President Javier Milei and Canadian author and academic Jordan Peterson.
