China unveils design of spacesuit for moon landing
On Saturday, the China Manned Space Agency unveiled the external design of China's spacesuit intended for lunar landings.
Building on these advancements, the production and comprehensive testing of initial spacesuit samples is currently underway.
The development of the lunar-landing spacesuit emphasizes comprehensive protection in complex environments, aiming for characteristics such as lightweight design, miniaturization, and enhanced safety and reliability.
A video shared by the CMSA demonstrates that the spacesuit employs integrated protective fabric, offering effective protection against the lunar thermal environment and lunar dust.
It features a joint configuration tailored for low-gravity conditions to improve the mobility of Chinese astronauts, also known as taikonauts, and includes gloves that emphasize safety and flexibility.
Additionally, the spacesuit is fitted with a multifunction integrated console, cameras with long and short focal lengths, and a panoramic anti-glare window.
The unveiling of the lunar-landing spacesuit took place during the third Spacesuit Technology Forum in Chongqing, southwest China, where an interplanetary exploration spacesuit design competition for college and middle school students was also announced.
The extravehicular mobility unit spacesuit, named "Feitian," which translates to "flying into space," has facilitated 17 extravehicular activities for taikonauts.
According to the agency, the public introduction of China's lunar-landing spacesuit highlights the incremental achievements of China's manned lunar exploration mission and demonstrates that the country's spacesuit technology has progressed into a new development phase.
