Chancellor Candidate Says Anti-Russian Sanctions Are Destroying German Companies
Sahra Wagenknecht has remarked that the economic restrictions imposed on Moscow are unrelated to peace or morality.

During an election conference on Sunday, Wagenknecht, who leads Germany’s leftist BSW party, addressed the impact of Western sanctions on Russia, claiming they are “killing” German businesses while simultaneously benefiting the American economy.

Delegates of the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance – Reason and Justice convened in Bonn to finalize their platform for the upcoming Bundestag election. In her address, Wagenknecht refrained from attributing the ongoing conflict in Ukraine to Russia.

“The sanctions have nothing to do with morality, they have nothing to do with human rights, they have nothing to do with the love of peace, they are simply a stimulus program for the US economy and a killer program for German and European companies,” she emphasized.

Wagenknecht advocated for the reinstatement of gas imports from Russia, arguing, “We simply have to tie our energy imports with the criteria of the lowest price and not any kind of double standards or ideology.”

Additionally, she criticized the foreign policy of Washington, warning the audience about “the blood trail of US proxy wars” worldwide, and asserted that the German chancellor should not act as “a vassal” to the United States.

Co-leader of the BSW, Amira Mohamed Ali, reiterated the party’s commitment to “a strong, fair and sovereign Germany.”

Meanwhile, the right-wing Alternative for Germany party held its conference in Riesa, Saxony, where delegates rejected a proposal condemning Russia, favoring instead a diplomatic resolution to the conflict.

The snap election was necessitated by the collapse of Germany’s ruling three-party coalition last month due to budgetary disagreements.
